YUVAN BOTHYSATHUVAR

Yuvan Bothysathuvar creates an optical wonderland with his abstract collages. Spellbinding at first glance, their hypnotic patterns and bright pops of colour soon give way to a luminous, giddy world of strips, blobs, spangles, whorls and waves.... Bothysathuvar’s colour palette is diverse, ranging from striking monotones to psychedelic hues. His collages are fashioned from mixed materials including coloured paper, newspaper cuttings, images, text, and plywood. The mesmerising patterns created with warm, saturated tones, energetic colours and the dynamic play of textures and layers are his unique interpretations of sensory stimuli like the shapes of leaves, and thoughts and memories filtered through his imagination. A skilled painter, he initially found work making posters and banners for film theatres in Tiruvannamalai, where he studied. Subsequently, he began producing large hoardings of film stars and political leaders in Chennai, garnering attention for his artfully realistic renderings. With his collages however, he doesn’t reproduce the world around him, but rather interprets it in a deeply unique way, expressing complex emotional and conceptual ideas through his distinct pieces.
