GURUSIDDAPPA G E

Gurusiddappa’s dreamlike, fantastical paintings offer sharp, witty commentaries on contemporary society, urbanisation, and the costs of development on the world around us. His works provoke viewers to examine their impact on the world around them. ... His raw, sinewy visual narratives with striking graphic novel-like aesthetics crackle with wry, critical observations of the world around him. A storyteller at heart with a love for Kannada literature and a background in theatre and film, his expansive paintings are rich in imagery and movement, where urban environments and landscapes are meticulously crafted with metaphors and layered with details. Growing up in a village in Chitradurga, Karnataka, Gurusiddappa moved to the busy Bangalore metropolis as a young adult. Ever since, he has carried a sense of longing for the land he calls home and the agrarian lifestyle that he left behind. His first exhibition at KYNKYNY, Adhyathma, chronicles themes of migration, commodification, and the tangled, messy relationship between human nature and capitalism.
