Shampa Sircar Das is a choreographer of symbols. A graduate of New Delhi’s College of Art and Jamia Millia Islamia, Das is inspired by the nature of human ancestry, and the convergence of the earth and cosmos. Her paintings are characterised by a sense of movement; they are a confluence of form and colour that range from the ethereal to the strikingly intricate. With masterful command, Das is able to create exquisite textures on her canvases, balancing them out with moments of clear, ethereal emptiness. Since 2006, Das has showcased her work in solo shows across some of India’s most notable galleries, and has also participated in group exhibitions across the world. Her work has been felicitated by renowned Indian and international organisations–a testament to the universal resonance of her themes and motifs.
