Arvind Kolapkar’s paintings celebrate togetherness, and people bonding over love and music. His lyrical works show lovers, friends and children lost in state of blissful camaraderie, pictured in cosy, rustic settings. Evoking a mythical reference to Krishna and his amorous idylls, the flute is a prominent part of his art. Folk and classical music is, in fact, the biggest muse for Kolapkar, who grew up in Ahmednagar. The lilting notes of various raagas seem to flow through the paintings. The characters he features, while decidedly folkloric, are stylised, and depicted with elongated forms, soft contours, foreheads shaded with vivid colours and closed eyes, immersed in the moment.
